I am excited, satisfied and rather humbled to announce the release of Music, No Theory - the course about the structure of music presented the way I like to present it, passing on to others what my great teachers gave me. I'm deeply grateful to FADERPRO founders Vincent di Pasquale and Steven Lee for seeking me out and making this course a reality. They've done for my teaching what TAXI's done for my composing. It's quite a moment for me to have this available now for the world!
Many of my students say my approach to what's usually called music theory clears away music mysteries. That approach grew out of playing drums in an R&B band, European conservatory piano training, then Berklee and decades of playing, composing and teaching.
There are songwriters who write great songs and barely know what they're doing compositionally. There are very successful people in various music arenas who literally don't know major from minor. These are the prodigiously talented - or irretrievably lucky - soaring on wings of ear and instinct, intuition and heart, able to craft or recognize stunning music like a child at play. But for most of us mortal musicians, it really helps to have an honest view of how music is put together, what makes it tick, its molecular structure. We need the clarity of knowing what scale we're using, what the usual melody, chord, rhythm and form stuff is, what's a little odd, and, what's really nuts. This allows us to express ourselves fully and give life to our music ideas through a fat gamut of emotions.
If you don't know these things, or have never been taught them in a way you can use or make sense of, Music, No Theory can come to your rescue: to fill gaps in music knowledge; to build a better foundation for solid musicianship; to play and write better, more interesting and satisfying music; or simply to break out of using the same chords for every song.
